Center for Science and the Schools

Enduring Achievement Award

The Pennsylvania State University

The Center for Science and the Schools (CSATS) was created in 2004 as a university-wide center to “provide a vehicle for our research-oriented land grant university to become more active in developing strategic partnerships with K-12 school systems.” The efforts of CSATS faculty and staff over the past 18 years have established Penn State as a leader in broader impacts, specifically to engage research universities in providing access to critical resources, advancing learning of students in our nation’s schools and broadening participation in STEM.

For nearly two decades, the Center has provided important Broader Impacts (BI) infrastructure for researchers, served as the connector to internal Penn State outreach groups and community partners, and advanced the shift in BI culture at Penn State University.
