Dr. Sharareh (Sherri) Kermanshachi is Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, Associate Dean of Research and Professor of Civil Engineering at Penn State Harrisburg. In these roles, she oversees several units including the office of research and outreach, research institutes/centers, continuing education division, economic development activities, and center for innovation and entrepreneurship (commercialization). Prior to joining Penn State, Dr. Kermanshachi served as the Director of Research Initiatives in the College of Engineering, Technology Transfer Director of the Center for Transportation, Equity, Decisions and Dollars (CTEDD), Director of the Resilient Infrastructures and Sustainable Environment (RISE) Lab, and Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Her areas of expertise lie in resilient infrastructures, autonomous vehicles, and risk analysis. Dr. Kermanshachi has published more than 350 books, scholarly articles, conference proceedings, and research reports and has conducted several national- and state-level research projects. Dr. Kermanshachi has received 52 prestigious international, national and regional awards. She is an active technical member of eight ASCE committees, two Transportation Research Board of National Academies committees, and DBIA and CII committees. Dr. Kermanshachi also served as the Board Member of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) and Editor/Editorial Board Member of the five journals. She has been invited to serve as a technical panel member for multiple national and international research projects, and as an organizer/technical committee chair for several ASCE and CSCE conferences. Dr. Kermanshachi established four student chapters at UTA and served as the faculty advisor for these chapters.

Dr. Kermanshachi is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (F.ASCE) and Institution of Civil Engineers (F.ICE). She received her PhD degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University. She also holds a master’s degree in Civil Engineering, a master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA), and bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering.


Th part of this fellowship, my goal is to create and implement a comprehensive Broader Impact (BI) plan at Penn State Harrisburg. This BI plan aims to further empower our faculty and researchers while also expanding and scaling our research initiatives.
