Dr. London Thompson is an accomplished educational leader and researcher with over a decade of expertise in promoting equity and inclusion, relationship management, and educational leadership. Dr. Thompson’s career is dedicated to developing and launching innovative educational initiatives that foster inclusive environments, particularly in STEM fields.
Currently, Dr. Thompson serves as the Program Coordinator for the DESCARTES National Science Foundation (NSF) programs at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa College of Engineering. In this role, Dr. Thompson works with master’s and PhD students to develop their “soft” skills, including critical thinking, understanding the implications of their work, and integrating DEI principles in STEM. Responsibilities also include strategic recruitment and equity analysis, enhancing program development, and supporting student initiatives.
As the Founder and Executive Director of Forward Equity Lab, Dr. Thompson leads training and professional development programs aimed at creating inclusive organizations. His commitment to diversity and inclusion is further demonstrated through his role as an Adjunct Faculty member at Purdue University Global, where he teaches courses on DEI in educational contexts.
In his work, Dr. Thompson emphasizes the importance of self-reflection and understanding the social implications of one’s work, particularly in technical fields. He is passionate about developing culturally relevant support programs that aid the academic and professional growth of diverse student populations.
Being selected as an ARIS ORIC Fellow is a significant milestone in my journey affirming that I am on the right path in higher education leadership. I am thrilled about this opportunity to engage with and learn from my peers. I look forward to making new friends and building connections that will shape my career goals moving forward.
