Kei Koizumi
Broader Impacts Champion
The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy
Dr. Kei Koizumi is a nationally and internationally recognized science policy leader who has made significant contributions in advancing the broader impacts of science and engineering. In his previous and current White House roles, Kei has continually fought to ensure that broader impacts were given equal footing to intellectual merit as a part of the NSF merit review process. He has also been a strong proponent for and has actively encouraged other federal agencies to include an assessment of broader impacts in their award review process.
Kei has always gone out of the way to engage with young scientists and graduate students who were interested in learning more about science policy, the federal budget process for R&D, and how they can effectively engage in the policy process to have a broader impact. His willingness to spend his own personal time to mentor graduate students and other research professionals in science policy is a testament to his commitment to advancing the broader impacts of science.
