BI Champions; ARIS Awards
We will start by recognizing the 2026 ARIS BI Champions and Awards winners. Each will each give brief remarks. In addition, we'll honor the recipients of the 2026 ARIS Awards who stood out for their excellence in conducting research with demonstrable societal impact.
Keynote: A Presidential View of Public Impact Research

Panelists: Angela Bednarek, Ph.D. and Ana Mari Cauce,Ph.D.; Discussant Benjamin Olneck-Brown
Speakers will share perspectives on research impact from the lens of the Presidents and Chancellors Council on Public Impact Research, a partnership with the Impact Funders Forum at The Pew Charitable Trusts. The conversation will include examples from Penn State’s award-winning Public Impact Research Initiative as well as information on the Impact Funders Forum. Panelists will also discuss the role of public impact research across institutional and philanthropic strategic thinking.

The Traceable Influences of Research and Innovation
To close out three days of rich dialogue on research, innovation, and training impacts on society, Dr. Knoedler will examine how participants in the research ecosystem can meaningfully connect their efforts across discovery and innovation pathways. The focus of this session will include ideas to ensure that the impacts of research and innovation investments are considered from the early sparks of ideas to their ultimate reach in the world. Drawing on the conversations and insights presented throughout the Summit, Dr. Knoedler will explore practical strategies for making these influences visible, traceable, and intentional at every stage. Attendees are encouraged to actively share examples, surface challenges, and offer ideas for how the pathways that connect research investments to real-world change can be measured.
