Director and Senior Research Associate, Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence, University of Colorado Boulder
The Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence (CSPV) at the University of Colorado Boulder shows how university research can directly address school and community violence. For more than 30 years, CSPV has partnered with youth, educators, community organizations, and policymakers to design practical, data-driven strategies that reduce violence locally, nationally, and internationally. Its work has contributed to a 75% reduction in youth arrests in a targeted Denver neighborhood, supported more than 200 Colorado schools in implementing comprehensive safety frameworks reaching more than 12,600 students, and expanded school safety initiatives in Indonesia. Grounded in community voice and rigorous evaluation, CSPV translates research into measurable, sustainable impact. By bridging science and practice, the Center advances effective prevention strategies that strengthen schools, communities, and public well-being.
