ARIS Announces Inaugural 2025 Research Fellows

The five selected researchers will enhance their expertise in Broader Impacts through a cohort-based program over the next year.

The Center for Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS) proudly announced today the inaugural 2025 ARIS Research Fellows: 

  • Dr. Kay Bidle, Professor, Department of Marine & Coastal Sciences, Rutgers University;
  • Dr. Melissa Libertus, Professor, Department of Psychology Research Scientist, Learning Research and Development Center, University of Pittsburgh
  • Dr. Roger Narayan, Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering, North Carolina State University and University of North Carolina
  • Dr. Petronela Radu, Leland J. and Dorothy H. Olson Professor
    Department Chair Department of Mathematics, University of Nebraska-Lincoln; and
  • Dr. Rachel Thibodeau-Nielsen, Associate Professor HDFS Undergraduate Honors Program Coordinator Isabelle Wade Lyda and Paul C. Lyda Professor, University of Missouri

During the year-long program, these Research Fellows will receive personalized support from ARIS leadership to expand their innovation and leadership in Broader Impacts at their institution. 

“Even though it is our first year, the caliber of applications and the number of submissions were impressive. These five researchers will be instrumental to expanding our Broader Impacts community and serving as future leaders,” said Janice McDonnell, ARIS Co-Principal Investigator at Rutgers University.

“We are proud to partner with this amazing group of ARIS Research Fellows to enhance their leadership skills in research impact and our ability to support researchers and their institutions,” said Dr. Susan D. Renoe, ARIS Executive Director. 

The year-long Fellowship will conclude with the five Research Fellows presenting their projects to the attendees at the 2026 ARIS Summit. They will also participate in ARIS programming throughout the year and share their experience and tools with their local and professional communities.
