Dr. Kay Bidle is a Professor in the Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers University. A microbial oceanographer, his research focuses on microbial ecophysiology, host-virus dynamics, virology, molecular evolution, and carbon cycle biogeochemistry. He leads an NSF-funded Growing Convergence Research project integrating biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, and modeling to study how viruses influence Earth’s carbon cycle.

A Ph.D. graduate of Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Kay has received honors such as the Lindeman Award and selection as a Moore Foundation Marine Microbiology Investigator. He also created Tools of Science, an educational video series that helps students and teachers explore the real-world process and creativity behind scientific research.
