The Center for Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS) is a 1,700+ member strong and growing community of practice that fosters the development of sustainable and scalable capacity to connect science to society. The Summit serves as the developmental and collaborative learning hub for our diverse community, and sponsors greatly enhance our ability to deliver quality engaging professional development and capacity building for meaningfully connecting science to society.

The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 “to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense …” NSF is vital because we support basic research and people to create knowledge that transforms the future. This type of support:
- Is a primary driver of the U.S. economy.
- Enhances the nation’s security.
- Advances knowledge to sustain global leadership.
Louis Stokes Regional Center of Excellence for the Study of STEM Interventions
The Louis Stokes Regional Center of Excellence for the Study of STEM Interventions (SOSI Center), located at the University of Missouri, is an NSF initiative that supports an inter-institutional collaboration.
The SOSI Center focuses on cultivating the cultural awareness and scholarly productivity of future and existing STEM training program leaders by providing venues for training and development related to critical, strengths-based theories and evidence-based practices.
Burroughs Wellcome Fund
The Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) serves and strengthens society by nurturing a diverse group of leaders in biomedical sciences to improve human health through education and powering discovery in frontiers of greatest need. BWF believes that a diverse scientific workforce is essential to the process and advancement of research innovation, academic discovery, and public service.
BWF makes grants primarily to degree-granting institutions on behalf of individual researchers. BWF also makes grants to nonprofit organizations conducting activities intended to improve the general environment for science.
The Kavli Foundation
The Kavli Foundation is dedicated to advancing science for the benefit of humanity, promoting public understanding of scientific research, and supporting scientists and their work. The foundation’s mission is implemented through an international program of research institutes, initiatives and symposia in the fields of astrophysics, nanoscience, neuroscience, and theoretical physics, as well as the Kavli Prize and a program in public engagement with science.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is a land-grant university. Through its three primary missions of teaching, research, and service, the university is the state’s primary intellectual center providing leadership throughout the state through quality education.
The university’s research enterprise has achieved record-breaking growth and progress over the past decade. The university’s graduates, faculty, and staff are major contributors to the economic and cultural development of the state.
Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium
Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium’s mission is to inspire, educate and engage people to serve as lifelong stewards for the conservation of animals and their habitats. The attraction is rated as the “world’s best zoo,” ahead of the San Diego Zoo and Loro Parque, based on an algorithmic assimilation of millions of reviews for 275 major zoos worldwide. It offers many interactive experiences, animal encounters, and activities to promote education about unique habitats around the world.
