Dr. Petronela Radu is the Leland J. and Dorothy H. Olson Professor of Mathematics and Chair of the Department of Mathematics at University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Her research explores analytical and modeling aspects of real-world phenomena—such as dynamic fracture, diffusion, fluid dynamics, traffic, and wave propagation—as well as applications in areas like image processing and neural networks in artificial intelligence.

Her work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and the Simons and Fulbright Foundations. She developed and teaches the award-winning course Math in the City, an interdisciplinary, hands-on experience where students use mathematical modeling to explore current social issues of local and national significance.
