Call for Applications: Accepted through May 24, 2022

We are excited to announce the call for applications to participate in the second cohort of the ARIS Toolkit project. Applications are being accepted through May 24, 2022, with selection to be announced in June 2022. Selected institutions will participate in the project for approximately 18 months, beginning in September 2022.

About

The ARIS Broader Impacts Toolkit project was developed to better understand the mechanisms needed to develop effective Broader Impacts (BI) statements. Our goal is to learn how institutions support the development and facilitation of BI plans, and the tools they use to do so, especially during the proposal development phase.

The ARIS Toolkit currently includes 1) the BI Wizard, 2) a BI statement checklist, 3) the Guiding Principles for Effective BI Statements, and 4) a new BI project evaluation rubric. Over the three years of the project, we will partner with ten universities to pilot test these tools, and collect a series of case studies on how institutions use the toolkit and their own resources to build BI/RI capacity. The case studies will be published in a special issue of the Journal of Community Engagement and Scholarship.

Details

  • We are looking for three institutions to join us as part of our second cohort. Each institutional partner should include a team of university professionals who will participate in the project over approximately 12-18 months. We define a BI professional as a knowledge broker, partnership coordinator, and capacity builder who supports, and may directly participate in, research, education, communication and community engagement between the academy, other diverse stakeholders such as K-12 and informal education, industry, and society-at-large.
  • We strongly encourage participation from a broad range of universities and colleges including HBCUs, Liberal Arts Colleges, Tribal Colleges, Technical Institutes and Professional Schools, and Universities who have a wide-ranging level of experience with Broader Impacts on their campus.
  • A subaward of $25,000 will be provided to support participation.
    1. As part of the cohort, participants will receive training on how to utilize and promote the ARIS Toolkit at their institutions.
    2. Partners will then be expected to help document and research the BI development process at their university, college or research organization, including documenting implementation of the ARIS toolkit (for example, by keeping records of training and consultations, and capturing feedback from researchers and BI staff).
    3. Each partner is expected to contribute a case study or other article to a special-issue journal to summarize this work.
